Unglued

Kids come a trottin’ to the table, after 3 or 4 calls,
all grubby like a couple of pigs in Spring
Do I need to build a stable with 3 or 4 stalls,
or call this dining room a circus ring?
I am coming unglued. I’m getting rude,
but they’re throwing food
If I hear one more complaint
Lord, help me with the mood I’m in,
gonna have to send me to the loony bin
Chores a struggle in the morning, homework a wrestle at night
Will I ever hear an unsolicited “please” or “thanks”.
The competition never is boring, but soon fists fly in a fight,
Racing to the car like a robbers getting chased from banks.
I am coming unglued. I’m getting rude,
getting called “dude”,
And I ain’t been no saint
Lord, help me cuz uh I’m a fumin’,
or I better check into the loony bin
But when I gaze on them with their eyes closed,
breathing peaceful, in their own world
All their meddlesome madness melts away.
Each day new love wakens, what was trampled and beat,
Stories, hugs & kindness in the plan
But somebody took the last bacon, yellow on the toilet seat
You know what’s about to hit the fan
I am coming unglued. I’m getting rude,
in this family feud
I am feeling faint…
Lord, help me with the mood I’m in,
they’re gonna have to send me to the loony bin

Thank God For Mothers

The countless gifts my mother gave and thousand ways she served
Me and all the neighbor kids, more than we deserved.
Then there was Ian’s mom with hot dogs, offering 2nds and 3rds
Aaron’s mother cheering for me at the games, giving many kind words.
Where in the world would we be
Without all the women who mothered you and me?
many gave up time so freely
Can we say, “Thank God for the women who mothered me.”
“Thank God for the women who mothered you and me.”
There was Gramma Kay who knit me gloves and paved my way for college.
Miss freeman made the fourth grade fun and filled my head with knowledge.
Saintly women pray for me and keep me looking up,
You know we all still need some mothering to fill our cup.
To women undervalued, and mamas under-praised
I’m so thankful God made you, Let nothing dissuade you
From making all the world a better place.
